Enhancing strength properties of recycled paper with TEMPO-oxidized nanocellulose

چکیده
Recycled fibers used in the manufacturing of paper and board are associated with strength deficiencies. This study investigated use TEMPO-oxidized nanocellulose from oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB-TEMPO) for reinforcing papers made such fibers. Strength properties tensile tear were enhanced addition OPEFB-TEMPO, strong correlations, as indicated by R2 values. The reinforcement capability was supported scattering coefficient-percent relationship. only drawback is that it reduces pulp drainability, which can be minimized adding drainage aids. Because a relatively small amount required, OPEFB-TEMPO has potential to strengthening agent, particularly production low grammage papers.

This effects of ozone and nanocellulose treatments were studied relative to the optical and strength features of chemical mechanical pulp (CMP) papers. An ozone treatment was performed at room temperature, and then nanocellulose was added. Sixty-gram handmade papers were made, and their physical, mechanical, and morphological properties were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning el...

A paper strength agent is an important type of chemical additive used in the papermaking industry. In this work some new paper strengthening agent samples were obtained by treating konjac glucomannan with hydrogen peroxide under acidic conditions, and their effects on paper properties were studied. Results showed that oxidized konjac glucomannan (OKG) can improve the paper properties effectivel...
